characteristics, local
Canadian Birch is primarily chosen, a
mystic material which guides me in various directions
through its richly figured wood grains, exploring, discovering new
possibilities at every turn.
Enthusiasm abounds the
moment pictorial interpretations curiously emerge from a wood form,
consumed with wild imagination, envisioning the motif it
will entertain, all while eagerly awaiting the
unique design it is meant
to become.
A
passion
for wood, to express my
artistic
intuition since 1985,
it is always, especially gratifying,
exhilarating watching a rejected block of birch once
intended for the fireplace, transform into an avant-garde sculpture.

 Summer Respite
2009, Birch, 22.5" × 7" × 7.5" | We should all enjoy a "Summer Respite," stopping the world briefly to relax peacefully under a shady tree. Pausing from the intensities, or nonsensities of everyday life, and reflect on our many blessings that so graciously have been offered. Allowing to appreciate beauty in the simple little things with a new understanding to provide a quiet serenity. For today, breathe in some fresh promise, and allow the warmth of the summer sun to recharge again. Tomorrow isn’t here yet, now is the time to cease in suspended animation...or maybe just your hammock. Used with permission by American Woodturner Journal

Maple 10" × 10" × 3.5" | Heidi's work "In The Spotlight" was featured on page 43 of the American Association of Woodturners "Maple Medley" An Acer Showcase - (View Showcase)"In The Spotlight" Eastern and Western maples with birdseye, curly and quilted figure and intarsia inlay techniques. "In The Spotlight" celebrates the silent voice, beauty, even intrigue of both the majestic maple tree and the elusive great horned owl.
